Top South Florida Road Trips

BY FALCON CAR RENTAL

1. Sanibel Island

A barrier island located 170 miles from Miami, Sanibel Island features some of the most gorgeous beaches in the world. It’s a worthy destination for anyone who enjoys watersports and seeing the local wildlife, such as dolphins and sea turtles.

If you’re picking up a Lamborghini rental in Miami, for argument’s sake, there’s another reason a road trip to Sanibel Island is so worthwhile. The drive lasts three hours, making it a perfect excuse to get every last bit of luxury out of your rental.

To reach Sanibel Island, take I-95 north from Miami (you’ll pass right by the beauty of the Everglades on your way), then continue north from Naples and take exit 128 for US 41 North.

2. Palm Beach

Unlike Sanibel Island, getting to Palm Beach only takes about 30 minutes, but what a drive it will be! Renting a Rolls-Royce or Bentley in Miami, particularly a convertible variant of either, is a perfect choice. You can bask in the serenity of an insulated cabin or take off the top and soak in the sun. There are 47 miles worth of beaches and coastlines to absorb!

Palm Beach is also a fabulous, wealthy destination, so if you have a luxury car rental in Miami, you’ll be in good company. As for things to experience once you’re there, Palm Beach is home to the 3rd largest coral reef, making it an excellent snorkeling spot!

3. Key Largo

The Florida Keys are the definition of “tropical paradise,” with Key Largo being the northernmost city. Located 70 miles from Miami, a road trip to Key Largo presents plenty of opportunities for something like a Lamborghini to flex its muscles.

Driving over various bridges provides an unforgettable view of sunlit waters, and once you arrive, relaxation and chill vibes prevail. Arriving in a Porsche or McLaren rental from Miami won’t make you feel out of place, as there are fewer better vehicles to take in a South Florida sunrise or sunset from.

4. Fort Myers

If you’re looking for a longer road trip, like the ride to Sanibel Island, rent a luxury SUV in Miami, like a Rolls-Royce Cullinan or Aston Martin DBX, and soak up 160 miles in comfort while you pass through the scenic Everglades and mangrove forests on your way to Fort Myers.

I-95 North joins I-75 as they pass by Big Cypress National Preserve, followed by the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge, sure to satisfy any nature enthusiasts along for the ride. Once you arrive, there are plenty of historical sites to take in, such as the 2,000-year-old Mound House and fantastic white sand beaches.

5. Orlando

Orlando may be a destination that slightly bends the definition of “South Florida,” but how could a list of great Florida road trips not include one to Orlando? It’s perfect for vehicles like the McLaren GT or Porsche 911 Carrera, sports cars that excel at being long-distance grand-tourers.

The drive stretches more than 230 miles, but renting an exotic car in Miami means all you have to do is enjoy your time with it, whether it’s a high-horsepower supercar or a hyper-luxury vehicle. Not to mention, once you arrive, you’re in the home of Disney World, Sea World, and Universal Studios!

6. St. Petersburg

For the refined, St. Petersburg is notable as the home of the Dali Museum, designed by the great Yann Weymouth. St. Petersburg also has plenty of wonderful restaurants to try out, along with a fashion-conscious and cosmopolitan downtown.

For those who want to mash the accelerator on a Bentley rental from Miami, the 260-mile road trip into St. Petersburg offers various route options. You can stick to the main highway, but there are plenty of small connecting roads where you could exercise a 650 hp W12 engine with the roof down.

7. Tampa

Tampa is the southernmost destination on this list, further away from Miami than Orlando and even St. Petersburg, clocking in at a distance of 280 miles. That said, the city offers old Florida charm and modern luxuries all jam-packed together. Take a BMW rental from Miami, and you’ll be in good company.

Not only will you drive through gorgeous natural scenery, but you will also experience one of the most unique bridges ever constructed. The Sunshine Skyway Bridge is four miles long, and its center incline gives the impression that you’re climbing up a roller coaster track.

Once you arrive in Tampa, there’s plenty to experience, thanks to renowned attractions such as Busch Gardens and the Florida Aquarium.
